Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies
The program equips students to respond to the Great Commission and serve effectively across diverse cultural contexts. Through intercultural understanding and practical ministry experience, students are prepared to bear faithful witness to Christ among peoples and cultures.
Purpose
The Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies (M.A.I.C.S.) program seeks to equip students to promote and implement missions and cross-cultural ministries within local churches, mission fields, and institutional ministry contexts. The program provides both academic and practical training through a solid biblical foundation, theological education, intercultural studies, and practical applications in missions and workplace ministry.
This program has newly added workplace ministry courses, specifically designed for Christians in the workplace. These courses aim to help participants practice their faith mission in their professional lives, cultivate spiritual influence and cross-cultural perspectives, integrate faith into daily work, and carry out the mission of ministry in the workplace.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the M.A.I.C.S. program, students will be able to:
- Explain and apply biblical, theological, and historical principles related to missions and cross-cultural ministries.
- Design and evaluate effective strategies within church, mission field, and organizational ministry contexts.
- Examine and assess their own spiritual growth and formulate a personal spiritual growth and leadership development plan.
- Analyze and develop influence of cultural factors on evangelism, cross-cultural communication, and interpersonal interactions.
Admission Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college, university, or theological institution with a bachelor’s degree or higher, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.67 (B or 80%).
- Must be a born-again Christian and have been baptized for at least two years.
- Demonstrated Christian character and spiritual maturity, with a recommendation from a pastor or church leader.
- Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
- Proof of English reading proficiency: a minimum TOEFL score of 470/52 (TOEFL iBT), an IELTS score of 5.5 or higher, or a Duolingo English Test score of 80 or higher. English proficiency scores are valid for two years and must be retaken thereafter. Applicants who earned a degree from an institution where English was the primary language of instruction, or who have lived in North America for more than 20 years, may be exempt from this requirement. Other forms of equivalent English proficiency may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Curriculum and Program Requirements
A total of 58 credits is required, including 48 credits of required courses and 10 credits of electives in Intercultural Studies.
Program Duration and Location
The program may be completed in a minimum of two years and a maximum of seven years. Students who require more than seven years may apply for an extension on a case-by-case basis. Selected courses may be completed online, either synchronously or asynchronously.

Participation in Church Life
During their studies, students are required to participate in the life of a local church, except during their first semester.
Transfer Students
- Please refer to the “Academic Policies” section on “Transfer Credit Guidelines.”
- Students transferring from a master’s program at Logos Evangelical Seminary or from a theological seminary accredited by ATS or ATA, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (B, or 83.5%), may apply for admission to this program in accordance with the Seminary’s policies.
Graduation Requirements
Complete the required 58 credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B).
Complete all required clearance procedures.
Attend at least one pre-graduation spiritual retreat before graduation.
Students who are within 3 or fewer elective credits of completing the degree may apply to participate in the commencement ceremony that year. However, they must first register for the summer intensive courses and complete all outstanding credits before the diploma will be issued.
