LOGOS Evangelical Seminary Midwest Leadership and Ministries Center

Midwest Leadership and Ministries Center

The Midwest Leadership and Ministries Center of LOGOS Evangelical Seminary launched its master’s-level courses in 2009 , offering opportunities for further study to Christians, ministry workers, and pastors seeking theological preparation. In addition to master’s-level courses, the Center offers Logos Training Institute courses, primarily through weekend intensives. We give thanks to God that, in 2012, the Center’s Master of Arts in Christian Studies program received ATS accreditation, allowing all program coursework to be completed at the Center. Approximately half of the coursework for the Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Family Ministry, and Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies may be completed at the Center, with the remaining courses available through synchronous and online instruction from the Los Angeles main campus. Centrally located near O’Hare International Airport, the Center welcomes students from churches throughout greater Chicago. Its supportive learning environment and convenient local amenities also attract students from other Midwestern states.

Key Messages for Effective Evangelism and Personal Witness

Rev. Zhenyi Xu

Course Overview

Evangelism and personal witness bring us into contact with diverse audiences, communities, and individuals with different circumstances and needs. How can we identify and communicate the essential message that moves listeners toward faith in Jesus Christ? Together, we will explore more than a dozen compelling evangelistic sermons and key messages in the Book of Acts.

About the Instructor

Rev. Zhenyi Xu grew up in a rural Taiwanese community shaped by folk religious traditions. After earning a doctorate at MIT and working as a research engineer for seven years, he answered the call to full-time ministry. Following his M.Div., he returned to Taiwan as deputy general secretary of the Evangelism 2000 movement and then served for ten years as senior pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Taipei, calling people to faith in Christ and baptizing more than one thousand believers.

He later completed doctoral studies in theology and education at Trinity International University. During that period, he taught Scripture, missions, and evangelism at campuses in the United States, Europe, Asia, Russia, and Taiwan, leading nearly two thousand people to faith in Christ. He served for six years in leadership roles at Holy Light Theological Seminary, including doctoral program director, academic dean, and vice president; he also served for five years as vice president of Chuangxin Theological Seminary (創欣神學院) in the United States. He currently serves as president of Pushi Xuanjiao Theological Seminary (普世宣教神學院).

Dr. Agnes Yip

Please note: To support meaningful learning, the instructor requires participants to attend the entire course. Please do not register if you are unable to attend all sessions. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Course Overview

This course explores relational tensions within three-generation Chinese families, focusing on the interplay of traditional filial piety, modern personal autonomy, and Christian values. Integrating biblical theology, psychology, and family ministry practice, it helps students understand differences in expressions of love, imbalances in giving and receiving, and the conflict and hurt that arise from inadequate boundaries.

Students will learn to establish healthy boundaries and develop constructive communication across generations. Particular attention will be given to how older parents can relate to their adult children with maturity and respect, bearing witness to their faith amid differences and nurturing a lasting legacy of faith.

About the Instructor

Dr. Agnes Yip is the founder and president of Huoxian (活現) and its Hong Kong and Canadian organizations. She holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology with an emphasis on multicultural and community contexts and is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California. A graduate of Alliance Bible Seminary, she served in pastoral ministry in Hong Kong for many years and now teaches as a guest lecturer at several seminaries.

Dr. Yip is committed to developing young people and serving intergenerational families and culturally diverse communities. In response to cultural challenges in multicultural settings, she developed a Life Planning curriculum and serves as its training director. Through creative, systematic teaching, she helps individuals, families, churches, and communities connect, put faith into practice, and live wisely.
