Field Education is not an add-on to the curriculum; it is an essential extension of theological formation. In real church and ministry settings, students integrate learning, calling, and lived experience to build a strong foundation for future ministry.

The goal is more than gaining experience. It is the integration of knowledge and life, academic study and spiritual formation, personal calling and the mission of the church—cultivating a mature pastoral heart before entering full-time ministry.

Programs & Practicum

A Coherent Practicum Pathway for Every Degree Program

Field Education serves several master’s and doctoral programs, with practicum courses designed around the formation goals of each degree.

Master of Divinity M.Div.
Required coursework includes Field Education I and II (FES501/FES502) together with the first-year summer Intercultural Short-Term Missions (FES521) and the second-year, two-month Church Internship (FES529) , forming a coherent pathway for ministry formation.
M.A. in Christian Studies / Family Ministry / Intercultural Studies M.A.C.S. · M.A.F.M. · M.A.I.C.S.
Required coursework includes Intercultural Short-Term Missions (FES521) is required. Elective practicum seminars encourage students to gain supervised experience in their areas of specialization.
Doctor of Ministry D.Min.
The program offers Field Education Seminar (FES80x) as an elective to help students engage North American ministry contexts and deepen reflection and renewal in ministry.
Practicum Settings
Practicum settings include Chinese churches, intercultural congregations, mission agencies, Christian nonprofit organizations, campus ministries, and community ministries, offering diverse contexts for service and pastoral formation.

Ministry formation comes not only through books, but also through accompaniment and faithful example. Each intern matures through on-site supervision, seminary guidance, and peer reflection.
