Master of Divinity

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Master of Divinity program, students will be able to:

1. Assess their spiritual growth and develop a personal plan for continued spiritual formation.
2. Develop and evaluate preaching and teaching materials grounded in Scripture and Christian theology.
3. Develop strategies that foster Christian character and emotional well-being within ministry contexts.
4. Evaluate and develop effective ministry models informed by Christian theology and cultural awareness.

Admission Requirements

1. Applicants must have completed a four-year undergraduate degree or graduated from a theological institution with a bachelor’s degree or higher, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.67 (B− or 80%).
2. Applicants must be born-again Christians who have been baptized for at least three years and demonstrate a clear calling and commitment to full-time lifelong Christian ministry.
3. Applicants must demonstrate strong character and spiritual maturity and provide recommendations from two pastors or church leaders. Applicants from mainland China must provide at least one overseas recommender and one church pastor.
4. For married applicants, the spouse must also be a Christian and support the applicant’s calling to ministry and pursuit of theological education.
5. Applicants must have sufficient proficiency in Mandarin Chinese to follow instruction.
6. Proof of English reading proficiency is required: a TOEFL score of at least 470 / 52 TOEFL iBT, an IELTS score of at least 5.5, or a Duolingo English Test score of at least 80. English proficiency scores are valid for two years and must be retaken thereafter. Applicants who earned a degree at an institution where English was the primary language of instruction, or who have lived in North America for more than 20 years, may be exempt. Other forms of equivalent English proficiency may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Curriculum and Program Structure

The program requires 85 credits, including 75 credits of required coursework and 10 credits of electives.

Program Duration and Location

The program may be completed in a minimum of three years and a maximum of seven years, with a one-year extension available upon application. All courses may be completed online, either synchronously or asynchronously.

Church Participation and Ministry Internships

Except during their first semester, students are required to participate in the life of a local church throughout their studies and complete ministry internships at a church or Christian organization as required. These experiences help students understand the communities they are preparing to serve and become familiar with the practice of ministry. When needed, an internship supervisor will assist students in finding a suitable church or ministry placement.

Transfer Students

1. Students transferring from the M.Div. program of LOGOS Evangelical Seminary or another seminary accredited by ATS or ATA, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 (B or 83.5%), may apply for admission to the M.Div. program in accordance with Seminary policies.
2. Students enrolled in the MACS, MAFM, or MAICS programs at LOGOS who have completed one year of study (at least 24 credits) and wish to transfer into the M.Div. program must submit an application and pay the required application fee during the semester prior to graduation. Admission is subject to approval following an interview with the Admissions Committee.
3. Students transferring from or completing the MACS, MAFM, or MAICS programs at LOGOS may transfer up to two-thirds of the credits required for the M.Div. degree (56 credits).
4. Students transferring from other institutions may transfer no more than one-half of the total credits required for the M.Div. degree (42 credits).

Graduation Requirements

1. Complete all 85 required credits with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (B).
2. Complete all required ministry internships.
3. Participate in at least one pre-semester spiritual retreat before graduation.
4. Complete all graduation clearance procedures.
5. Students with three or fewer remaining elective credits may participate in that year’s commencement ceremony, provided they register for the summer intensive courses and complete all outstanding credits before the diploma is issued.
