Form I-20 is an official U.S. government document issued by U.S. colleges and universities to international students. It serves as a Certificate of Eligibility, confirming your admission to a full-time academic program and your financial ability to cover tuition and living expenses while studying in the United States.

I-20 Application Guide

Students planning to study in the United States in F-1 status must apply for an I-20 and provide sufficient proof of financial support. Applicants must first receive an official admission offer and complete enrollment confirmation before applying.
You must carry your I-20 with you at all times. If your I-20 is lost, contact the Designated School Official (DSO) listed on your I-20 to request a replacement.
Please review the information below and prepare the required documents. Once ready, log in to Populi → Home → Links, select I-20 Application Form, and begin your application.

How to Use Your I-20
  1. Apply for an F-1 student visa at a U.S. embassy or consulate. Dependents should apply for an F-2 visa.
  2. Present your I-20 to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection officer when entering the United States. Your I-94 record will be generated after entry.
  3. Keep your I-20 in a safe place throughout your studies.
  4. If you plan to travel outside the United States, notify the International Student Office at least two weeks in advance and obtain a DSO travel signature on page 2 of your I-20 before departure.
  5. Your authorized period of stay is generally tied to the Program End Date on your I-20. After successfully completing your program, F-1 students generally have a 60-day grace period to depart the United States, transfer to another school, or make other lawful status arrangements. If your I-20 is terminated, you may not receive a grace period, and you and your F-2 dependents may need to depart the United States promptly.
  6. Your F-1 visa is used to request admission to the United States. F-1 students must maintain full-time enrollment each semester to maintain lawful student status.
  7. The Program Start Date is listed on the first page of your I-20. F-1 students may not enter the United States more than 30 days before the program start date.

Important Reminder

If you are unable to begin your studies by the date listed on your I-20 due to visa scheduling, interview results, changes in your travel plans, or other circumstances, contact the International Student Office immediately.

Failure to notify the Seminary promptly may have serious consequences:
Your SEVIS record and I-20 may be canceled or become invalid. Your previously paid I-901 SEVIS fee may not be transferable, and you may need to obtain a new I-20, repay the fee, repeat the visa process, and potentially defer your enrollment.
